New Traffic Signal on Treat Blvd

OgplazasignalThe City has successfully installed a new traffic signal on Treat Blvd just west of Oak Grove Road, at the Fire Station/Oak Grove Plaza entrance.

This should improve access and safety – and the contractors and city staff are to be commended for getting it done during the brief break between school years.  It will be interesting to see how it operates when school starts.

The next project for Treat Blvd will be median beautification between Oak Grove Road and San Miguel Road.  Stay tuned.

This is great news for people who try to exit the Citibank parking lot to get in the left turn lane on Treat. Hopefully, this means fewer accidents there.

For the next Concord-based project, I would love for something to be done about the crazy speeds that people drive coming down the hill from Concord to the lights at Oak Grove. I’ve seen (and heard) cars going at least 90 mph, especially at night. They usually also run the red light at Oak Grove if they’re going that fast…

I think the addition of the traffic signal is great and will make that intersection a lot safer.

I drive up and down Treat Blvd Between Oak Grove and 680 twice a day.

My question to you is, how hard would it be to adjust the “timing of the light”.

I noticed on late Saturday night that when I was heading towards Oak Grove from Country wood that the signal was red for me. It was green for those drivers traveling towards Bancroft. It was not green for those wishing to turn from Oak Grove into the City bank/ Round table lot. With a minimum amount of traffic, I waited about 4 minutes, as did the driver trying to turn into the shopping center. I was then given the green, so that other driver was still waiting. When I made the left on to oak Grove, I looked in the rear view mirror and noticed he was still waiting.

I also noticed this same issue on Sunday morning about 6:00 AM. I was heading towards Bancroft from Oak Grove, and waited several minutes along with someone turning into City bank lot. I was then given the green, and the individual trying to turn was still on red.

I’m sure an adjustment could be made. I don’t mind waiting, it’s just odd that with nobody turning, or trying to turn, that direction is on red for quite awhile against the other side of traffic.

Thanks for the comments and questions. I also received a lengthy email from a resident asking questions about signal timing at this new intersection and several others.

I’ll ask staff for a response and post it when available. My guess is we are still figuring out the best way to set the signal timing.

Any idea when RiteAid will begin building on the Oak Grove/Monument corner property?

Curious: My guess is within 3 to 6 months. Normally when a project is approved it takes the contractor a few months to finish the construction drawings, get those plans approved and a permit issued from the City and other agencies.

Thank you for the update. Glad to hear the Rite Aid project was approved. We live near that corner and it is a total eyesore. Wish they could start sooner and do something about the weeds.
